Winter Camping

It was really nice to get back out this past weekend. It’s been awhile since I camped or did any hiking. The forecast also called for snow, so I was looking forward to trying out new gear and seeing some interesting conditions. We arrived at the park Saturday afternoon to set up camp and explore. There are lots of paths winding along the Shenandoah River, so plenty of wildlife and pretty sights around. We cooked up a sweet potato scramble on the cast iron for dinner and enjoyed the warmth of the fire as the temperatures dropped to the low 20s.

Waking up to a fresh coat of snow all around you is a great feeling. We were excited to get on the trail and see what we could find. There were lots of different birds out and about. I normally don’t photograph birds much because I don’t have the right gear, but there were so many of them and they didn’t mind our presence so I was able to get relatively close with my 70-200mm. It was refreshing to try something new! Here are a few photos from that morning to scroll through..
